Only the last pictures taken were remaining, while the camera has the latest 3.10 firmware, dated 2019!

Actually an external USB card reader connected to a PC was showing all pictures.
So I put the card back into the camera and did [Recover Image DB] as recommended from this page and they reappeared.

The reason it happened today, IMO, is because my setup has 2 SD cards, one JPeg for backup (slot 2), and the main one (RAW) in slot 1. I used the slot1 card on the PC, and forgot to put it back in the camera. As I switched it ON, it had a kind of red warning “1RAW”, telling, rightly, that a card was missing. Then after inserting the card, I went to take some pictures.
Then, that happened.

But how come such an important feature is still buggy?
If there is one thing that Sony has to get right, that’s that! Ensuring the images are safely stored!
And no new firmware from Sony for the a7Riii since 2019!
Sony gave up on the III when the IV was released 🙁

This and other things convinced me that Nikon was a better choice.
